  1. Rev. La Wanda Pope says:

Blessings Bishop!!! It has been challenging during this lenten season. The difference in this season of lent and others is that I have become truly transparent. I was holding on to some things that caused me to be happy but not receive the fullness of joy. Yes Bishop, real happy days are here again. I have received the JOY of the Lord and He is speaking during this season and I am listening and obeying.

  2. Shawna says:

As we are well into the Lenten season and the Daniel fast, I thought I should finally slow down enough to write some of my experiences during this process.

With regards to the fast, I had a few major temptations early on, but have managed to get things in order. It’s funny how my 7 boxes of girl scout cookies arrived recently; they’re still unopened, and everyone wants to feed me meat or to have me go out to lunch or dinner. I pretty much gave those up as well. I waivered a bit on the “no meat” in the beginning (due to a wedding and a house warming party) but never binged. But, I felt so convicted, so, now it’s pretty smooth sailing.

On the spiritual tip, I have spent more time in prayer and seeking God’s will for my life than I have in a long time. This prompted me to exercise my faith a bit more on the job, specifically. Earlier this week I asked for a different position,in the midst of a terrible recession, because I didn’t like what I was doing and felt that I should be doing something else or moving on. And, thankfully, I didn’t get fired and I will start a new position as soon as I complete my 2 current projects. Hopefully, by lenten season end I’ll be in a new position.

My boss’ response surprised me quite a bit because instead of firing me for asking for a new position, he said I was one of his favorite employees and asked where it is I thought I wanted to go to get more exposure in the company. I’ve only been there 3 years.

But, hey! when you ask God daily to open the doors he’d have open and close the one’s he doesn’t want you to walk through, you can get bold about the doors you see opening because He does just that!

Personally, I have had a few more tests during the Lenten season as well. My relationship with my daughter has really come under attack. She is very young and seems to be quite angry over the divorce of her father and I. Though this happened roughly 3 years ago, I can see its affect on her. She is a daddy’s girl. So, I am believing God for a breakthrough in my relationship with my daughter. I want to show her I love her and care for her and that I am sorry about my broken relationship with her father.

My relationship with a gentleman I’ve been seeing for a short while has taken on a new direction as well. Rather than my compromising myself and my time most of the time, he has had to fit into my prayer, work, parenting, and school schedule. I used to go above and beyond to stay up late for phone calls, etc., but often didn’t spend the time in prayer and fellowship with Christ the way I should’ve. And, I think that I have garnered more respect as a Christian and a believer now that this gentleman has watched me live my walk.

Thank you for everything!!!! The audio and video messages as well as all the scripture readings, and the prayer and meditation on Psalms 51 three times a day have helped me tremendously. Sorry to be so long…

  3. Rev Robbie says:

As we embark upon the last year in the first decade of the 21st C.E. we can reflect on just how far we have come as a people. Through the chains of slavery; Jim Crow laws; civil rights movements; Y2K; our FIRST Black President; and now into globalhood economics - our one constant has been God. Knowing that we are secure in God’s love, we can seek happiness and joy in life whatever its trials. Our strength is in our faith; and our faith is in God; and God is in charge and the WORD is true - so look to the WORD for the answers for today and forever - it’s written that we might have life & have life more abundantly.

  4. Amen…I count it all joy Bishop, the joys and the pains and God know i have both.
