This is Your Wake Up Call!

I May Bend, But I Won’t Break!

200366757-001“That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,
which yields its fruit in season
and whose leaf does not wither-
whatever they do prospers.”

Psalm 1:3 NIV

Dear Friend,
Psalm 1 contrasts the walk of the righteous with the walk or the ways of the unrighteous. The psalm does well at contrasting the present and future states of choosing to serve God amidst your circumstances. For some the economy has deteriorated not only finances, but also spirits. This psalm does well at illustrating that no matter what happens in life, God is still in control. The psalmist argues that the blessings of this life are not found in people, but they are found in God.

Psalm 1, and in particular verse 3, led me to study the life of the palm tree. I find that the life of the palm tree is not much different than the life of a Christian. The most intriguing similarity to our life is the fact that one can cut a palm tree, but can’t ever kill it. In laymen’s terms, one can hurt a palm tree, but can’t ever stop a palm tree. Unlike other trees, the vital nutrients that help to sustain the life of the palm tree are not found in the bark, but are rather found in the heart of the tree. What I need you glean from this information is that when you learn that your emotions, feelings, needs, wants, and desires are not hung on your sleeve, but rather hidden in your heart, there exists no weapon (formed) against you that will prosper. The strength of who you are is planted so deeply that come hell or high-water, you are going to be better than alright, you shall be secure.

The palm tree is by nature flexible. The truth of the matter is that palm tree bends, but doesn’t break. Dark clouds, strong winds, hurricanes, and even monsoons can blow most trees away, but not the palm tree. The palm tree has the ability to bend all the way to the ground. After the storm has passed, the palm tree has the ability to straighten up again. It is when the palm tree straightens up that one finds that the palm tree is stronger than it was even before the storm. I believe that God is speaking through the life of the palm tree. God is saying to you and I that if we can endure the storms of today, the trials and tribulations of our present circumstances, then we in fact will be stronger.

I learned a long time ago that there is no rainbow without some rain, just as much as there is no success without struggle (Frederick Douglass). God promises is that you will be strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience (Colossians 1:11). What doesn’t kill you can only make you stronger. Welcome life’s challenges as a means to turn your test into your testimony.

The palm tree’s depth exceeds it’s height. This is a reminder that what you see is not always what you get. The mistake is made when one begins to take meekness for weakness. While the roots of the average tree go only a few feet underground, the roots of the palm tree go deep looking for water. David said this about the people who trust in God in Psalm 1:3. God’s plan for you is to go deep, stay connected, never be uprooted, and at all cost bend, but not break. The truth is when you take more of your time bending, and less time thinking about your breaking, God will prosper you. Whatever you need from God on today receive it, knowing that that I may have to bend, but I will never break. 1. This message truly amazes me! It reminds me of how truly awesome God really is. A few years ago now , I remember having a dream in which I saw a tree sitting in a pasture swaying and bending in the wind. But no matter how hard the wind blew the tree didn’t break. I then heard a voice in the dream that said these words to me, “You may bow and you may bend but you will not break!” It was God letting me know, that yes you may be going through right now but I will not allow this storm to destroy you! And here I stand! Grounded and rooted in my Lord and savior Jesus Christ knowing and realizing that I can do anything and make through anything as He gives me strength. Thank you for this message. It is truly a confirmation of God’s faithfulness in my Life!! Words cannot express how much this has encouraged and blessed my spirit. Sometimes God will send a reminder of what He has already spoken.
