As a bible-toting toddler, dreaming teen, and woman of faith who is continually surrendering to God’s will for her life, I equate success with doing what is pleasing in the Father’s sight. Throughout every season of my life, my heart has sought to know and do the Father’s will.
As a teenager, a young Russian gymnast impressed me. Nadia Comaneci was the first gymnast to score a perfect 10.0 in the Olympics. She did it at the 1976 Games, and then went on to score six more 10.0s and win three gold medals. When Nadia achieved this distinction, I was 18, three years into learning how to be a disciple after giving my life to Christ.
The most memorable aspect of her performance rest in her decision to give it her best. Sometimes she scored a perfect ten, and sometimes less. Nevertheless, at the end of each performance she rested. Every performance was a success.
Nowadays I listen for what God would have me do, accomplish, or surrender unto Him. Some days I score a ten and some days less. Nevertheless, at the end of each day I experience success. I rest knowing I did my best to render a performance that is pleasing in the Father’s sight.
