“I love you” chanted the sweet voice of my preschool age son, and just for fun I asked, “How do you know?” He replied with enthusiasm and great assurance… “Because I can feel it!” What a sweet memory of 20 years ago, and a timeless explanation of the feeling of love. I understood immediately – and I understand even more now.
My son knew I was his Mom and that I took care of him daily. He went to sleep each night without concern for his wellbeing or whether I’d be there when he opened his eyes the next morning. He knew there would be food to eat, and clothes from which to choose for the day. He didn’t take me for granted; he just knew that I loved him and always had his best interests at heart. (Did he ‘really know that’ at 4 or 5 years old… surely not in its full context, but in his heart he knew…he could “feel it!”)
John knew who Jesus was because he saw the Holy Spirit descend from heaven like a dove and rest upon Him – as he had been forewarned by ‘the one who sent him.’ Because he was sure of what he knew, John continued to testify that Jesus was “the Lamb of God” and after hearing this testimony, others began to seek The Messiah for themselves.
There are many miracles, signs, and wonders that attest to who Jesus is; and in addition to those that I have read about in the Bible, and even seen in my own life and the lives of those around me – I know who Jesus is because “I can feel Him!” and like John, I just can’t help but to tell what I know about Him.
How do you know who He is? Can you feel Him too? Who will you tell?
