Rivers Are Flowing In You

rivers

The Reverend Jarrett Britton Washington, M.Div., MACE
John 7:37-38
I wonder if right now you have the propensity to testify to yourself the drive you have in you is pushing you to someplace greater, even if you don’t know where the place is located within the context of where you are right now?  Furthermore, I wonder, deep down on the inside, if you have the ability to convince yourself that even if you never reach where you are going, you at least can say you died trying?
.
The weight God can be so heavy in our lives many gospel writers, and prophets of old have described it as a river.  Rivers are natural watercourses, usually freshwater, flowing towards an ocean, a lake, a sea, or another river.  In very few cases, rivers simply flow into the ground or dry up before reaching another body of water.  Some writers, in an effort to create some level of dualism equate the words ‘river’ and ‘anointing’ to be one in the same.  If the two words, river and anointing, have some level of synonymy, then the argument can be made when the anointing of God comes and lays hands on you, initially you attempt to get some level of control; however every thrust of your attempt only weakens the flow of the power in your life.
.
The book of John says, On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, ”If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” (John 7:37,38 NKJV).  I want you to understand there is a river flowing in you, yet and still the world is waiting for you to pour it all out.
.
This past weekend, my wife was preparing to bring the Sunday morning message at two churches.  As she prepared herself to minister, I noticed a distinct difference in her spirit.  As she meandered through the scriptures, and placed the words on paper, I saw something in her that she had always said happened to me.  My wife, the very beautiful, effervescent, and intelligent woman I married just five weeks previous sat downstairs in our den, with her bible open, a commentary, a cup of coffee, and her laptop and I witnessed her making herself completely empty.  She was being used by God, and every single time I walked up and down the stairs I saw how her spirit and even her physical disposition were changing before my eyes.
.
When our lives are being used of God, God does the filling, but God also does the pouring.  I want you to understand you can’t stop flowing water.  You may not realize what God is doing when the anointing/river is flowing in you, yet and still, you just have to let flow.  This is particularly interesting to me because I oftentimes have to remind myself that what God has for me is for me.  Even when others think that I am not qualified, nor do I possess the ability to attain what people think I should have, I remind myself the anointing and/or the river of life bursting and flowing in me already says I can have it all.
.
Well what exactly is this river?  Well the bible helps us to understand the river dwelling on the inside of us is in fact much longer than the Nile River and this river stretches much wider than the Mississippi. This river living in you and I is in fact in the person of the Holy Spirit; and to let it flow through us gives life to all who are willing to drink.  You ought to understand the Lord will never be slack in the promises He has concerning you (2 Peter 3:9) therefore, what He has spoken shall always come to pass.  There is a river that is flowing out of you that reminds you every single day that no matter what happens, God will and can take care of you!
.
I want to speak to your river and tell your river to flow right now in the name of Jesus!  Don’t hold back any longer!  As my wife prepared to bring the Word, I realized even more, that our union is more than just a relationship, it is a ministry.  Thusly, as we minister to other folk, we also minister to one another.  For I am convinced that even as she poured out her soul to those gathered in worship, I realize God has given me enough of the God in me to pour back into her.  The relevancy of the previous statement comes to you like this: “There are folk connected to your river source right now, who are waiting for you to pour into them.”
.
Some of you reading this have been holding back for far too long and I hear God saying ‘let it flow.’  Let your river make room for your dreams, but also your family’s dreams.  Let your river break through to your desires, but also everyone connected to you.  If you can testify your cup(s) is running over, then let it run over into somebody else’s life as it runs over in yours.
