Praycation 2013 – Blessed Quietness

Word for the Day: Quiet
Verse of the Day: Psalms 46:8-11

“Come and see the works of the Lord, the desolations he has brought on the earth. He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth; he breaks the bow and shatters the spear, he burns the shields with fire. “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.”

There is a blessing in being quiet. In the stillness of the moment, the senses that you often ignore kick in and you become keenly aware of your surroundings. You hear the birds singing. They were there all along however in the everyday flow of things, they go ignored. Suddenly you see and appreciate the crisp blue sky with wisp of white clouds. You feel the warmth of the afternoon breeze on your skin; smell the sweetness that comes after a rain shower hits fresh soil. You are blessed with the peace that comes from simply exhaling.

Something else takes place when we are still. As we pause to clear our thoughts and the mental fog that sometimes clouds our vision, we become even more aware of our God. We see and just how big He really is in our lives and in the world around us. We realize that all the things we strive to accomplish; the things we labor to “make happen”, the things that put fear in our hearts and cause us to worry, are ultimately in God’s hands and under his control. This is perfectly fine because the God who is in control is mighty and powerful!

We may have a role to play in the life we live, the final word is and always has been with God. The greater blessing that comes with this understanding is that if we can just be still for a moment and let God move, he will be exalted or “honored” as the NLT version of this verse states. Translation: He will show us just how much better His plan is than ours and how perfectly complete it is for all involved.

The next time life and its situations become overwhelming, rest in the blessed quietness of knowing that HE is GOD. His plans will be fulfilled, in his timing for his purpose. We are simply blessed to be a part of it all. Rest assured that it will all work for our good.

Let us Pray: Dear God, help me to embrace quietness as I am still and aware that you are God so that you are magnified in my life. In Jesus name, AMEN
