This is Your Wake Up Call!

Praycation – Stressed Out, Under Siege and Overwhelmed!

“Let nothing disturb you, let nothing frighten you; All things pass: God never changes. Patience achieves all it strives for. Whoever has God lacks nothing, God alone suffices.”

These words were written on a bookmark from Theresa of Avila’s prayer book. God alone sustained in tough times. As it was in the century in which she wrote this quote so it is today. Things happen that disturb, frighten and change without prior notice. Our faith wraps around our hearts like a vine giving nourishment, patience and encouragement. It is a reminder that Jesus is still the same today as yesterday and what we need He can provide.

Our minds understand that but sometimes our heart fails especially when death claims someone we love whether at the end of a long illness or suddenly in the street. Our souls wrestle with questions that will not be answered in this lifetime. We rehash the events again and again hoping for a different conclusion.

Welcome to Praycation! Let’s pray today for the stressed out, the under siege and the overwhelmed who face both the expected and the unexpected that come without prior notice.
Today beloved, we need more than words that are tweeted or texted; more than innuendos and accusations; more than fact finding and cover ups…we need the Presence to give families, like Michael Brown’s and others strength and courage to face a future in uncharted waters.

Let us pray:

“Come to me all who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest”
Matthew 11: 28

Gracious loving God, here we come today with broken things that won’t mend; empty places that human efforts cannot fill and withered hope dying on our vines of our faith. We confessed we have looked to each other, systems, governments and organizations to do what only you can do.

Now we come to you weary and burdened. We come seeking more than miracles but strength and courage to face an uncertain future. May days of comfort outweigh days of challenge.

Today we lift before you people who are under stress; families with no openness, no trust, no work, no money, no united front or fierce loyalty to one another.
We pray for emerging families just starting out. Protect them and the fresh love they share.
We pray for families that have been together for a long time. May the love that brought them together grow, flourish and mature with each passing year. We pray for those who come together to make a family, spiritual families, and the family of God.

Here we come Lord! Grant us the rest that easily escapes us in our going out and our coming in.
In Jesus Name, Amen
