Instructions are a necessary evil. Most people do not like to follow instructions. Purchase a new product or service and instructions come with it. However, how many people actually read the instructions before attempting to use the new gadget or service? The instruction manual becomes a part of the drawer containing other instruction manuals usually never to be looked at again. However, we end up wasting more time than necessary trying to figure it out on our own because we failed to read the instructions.

When Jesus and his disciples drew near to Jerusalem, He gave his disciples instructions on what to do in order to prepare for his entrance. He told them step-by-step what type of supplies would be needed and where to go to find them. Jesus even prepared them with what to say should they be questioned. When they followed the instructions and were well prepared, finding everything as he had told them. They even knew exactly how to respond when questioned. The disciples were able to successfully complete the mission because they followed the instructions.

In order to successfully live as followers of Christ, it is necessary for us to follow the instructions. We can attempt to live this life on our own without reading the instructions. In turn we experience unnecessary roadblocks, detours and delays because we haven’t consulted the instructions. God knows what we are to do and has given us the instructions through the word of God and through prayer.

The Bible is our instructions manual. Take the time to read the manual and follow the instructions so that our way may be prosperous as we fulfill the mission and purpose of God for our lives.
