This is Your Wake Up Call!

The Lenten Journey 2015 – Do You Know the Story?

TBowen2John 20:30-31

The disciples saw Jesus do many other miraculous signs in addition to the ones recorded in this book. But these are written so that you may continue to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing in him you will have life by the power of his name.

                          John‬ ‭20‬:‭30-31‬ NLT

On Friday night I was honored to be the guest of one of my students as he celebrated the beginning of Passover with a traditional Seder. By definition, the Seder is a ritual performed by multiple generations of a family, involving a retelling of the story of the liberation of the Israelites from slavery in ancient Egypt, as told in the Book of Exodus in the Hebrew Bible. By experience, it was an awe inspiring event, celebrating the history of the Jewish people and most importantly, teaching that history to the next generation- the children.

As I reflect on the evening’s activities, the question begs to be asked, how well do we know our story of freedom, the story of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ? Do our children know it? What about our family, friends, and neighbors? Last night, even the youngest children who were under the age of 5 were present and actively participating with the adults well beyond midnight. They shared songs they learned in school and participated in games designed just for them. The host specifically stated that the night was for the young people to ask questions so the elders could enthusiastically answer them. The guests who were present represented family and friends, even friends of other faiths, such as me and my family. It was a celebration of love and hope.

Today, we celebrate the most important day in Christianity- the day Jesus rose from the grave with power over death and hell in his hands. Power he shares with his brothers and sisters that have been adopted into the Kingdom of God through his sacrifice of love and obedience.

My charge to you, from this day forward is to know the story and tell the story. Know it for yourself and tell it to our children and those who do not know, with love and zeal. Share it with your friends and family. Tell it in detail; tell it in all its glory. Celebrate our freedom in remembrance and practice. Telling the story and living a life of victory and fullness.

Charles Wesley said it like this, “A charge to keep I have, a God to glorify…” Ours is to share the Gospel and to live it every day, so that God is glorified.

Do you know the story?

Abba Father, on this Resurrection Sunday, revive us again to continue to live and tell the story! ‬‬‬

Minister Tracey Bowen Bell
Bethel Apostolic Temple
Miami, FL

He is rise, he is risen indeed! What a glorious day when we can celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ and live with resurrection power! Sin, death and hell has been defeated. The suffering of Friday pales in the glow of the miracle of Sunday morning.

Celebrate the miracle.  Jesus left the tomb and didn’t go back. Now we too can leave some suffering and pain never to go back. Jesus got up from defeat and declared victory over the people and things that conspired to hold him down. We too can get up from some stuff that conspires to hold us down.

As Minister Bowen-Bell writes in her message today, know the story. After you know, then tell it! Tell it today!
