This is Your Wake Up Call!

Praycation 2015 – Whoops, There It Is!

99384330Beloved, this has been the summer of summers. Our hearts have been assaulted by the horrific, the heinous and the rampant rage of hatred violating the sanctity of the sanctuary, the security of the mall and the safety of the movie theaters.

Everyday brings more news of another heartbroken family grieving the loss of someone near and dear. Everyday brings the news of another disaster and disappointment. Everyday too many of us have lifted our voices to heaven crying how long, O Lord, how long!

I said I wasn’t going to do Praycation this year during the month of August this year. I had my reasons all lined up. I had a great case of the “this and that’s”. There was this and that. You know what this and that is, right? This got in the way. That was more important. This blocked the flow. That didn’t leave any time. This interrupted. That was a distraction. This needed immediate attention. That caused a detour. This was draining. That was stressful.

Have you ever had a season of “this and that’s” that just got in the way of what you needed or wanted to do?

God has a way of letting you know that whatever the “this and that’s”, it’s just not a good enough reason to abandoned your spiritual disciplines. Whoops, there it is! I’ve committed to a 31-day discipline since 2009. Many of you have joined me.

So here I am, six days into the month of August saying to the Lord, I yield, I yield…what must I do? The answer came “Offer yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life. (Romans 6:13)

Join me again on another 31-day journey of prayer. Let’s spend some time in the throne room.  As the hymn writer sings, “Consecrate me now the thy service Lord…..”

Praycation 2015 will feature a daily word, Bible verse and prayer. It only takes a few minutes or as long as God encourages you to stay in throne room prayer. Try it and encourage others to do the same. Let me know in the comment section that you will join Praycation to end your summer season in preparation for the great things God has for you.

“Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do amazing things among you.” Joshua 3:5

The word for today is CONSECRATION.

Today begin to separate yourself from everything that would contaminate your relationship with God. Separate yourself from everything that would offend a holy God.

In the Bible, the book of Joshua helps us to understand consecration. After 40 years wandering in the desert, the people of God were given two things. They were given a command and a promise. They were commanded to bathe and change their clothes. They were given a promise of great things to come in preparation to crossing the Jordan River into the Promised Land.

The washing and changing of clothes were symbolic of making a new beginning. They had to be clean and pure to follow God into promised places.

Wash yourself in God’s word. Change whatever contaminates your relationship with God. Follow the Lord into a new place of great things. Declare…it is so!

Your ways, O God are holy. You are the God who performs miracles daily. You display your power among those who call upon your name. Lord, I surrender my life to you. I yield my plans to your will. Wash me. Cleanse me. Purify my thoughts, words and deeds.

In Jesus name, as you opened the Jordan River in times pass, open my own Jordan River and grant me passage from barren places into your promised places. Amen.

Bishop Vashti Murphy McKenzie
