This is Your Wake Up Call!

The Lenten Journey 2018: We Are Not Afraid!

Fear Not
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
2 Timothy1:7 (NKJV)

We Are Not Afraid

Paul has seen the need to send his young son in the ministry a second letter because of what Timothy is experiencing as the pastor of people. Paul gives Timothy encouragement each time he writes to him by letting him know what he means to the body of Christ and that his “gifts” are to be stirred up and used.

Timothy comes from a family of believers, who are Christians and he followed in the Way. We know about his grandmother and mother’s faith. So it is that Timothy has to be encouraged to not be scared of his calling because God has placed the Spirit in him by the laying on of the hands of the Apostles. Timothy has to be reminded here that God did not give him a spirit of fear when he received the Holy Ghost. Along with it came power, love and good sense.

Young children sometimes have no fear, but when they are afraid, there is always mom and dad or some adult near to comfort them, put their minds at ease, look under the bed and everything it takes to get rid of whatever was under the bed. While the parents know there was nothing that could harm their little ones, it was their job to ease the minds and when the “scare” was over, everybody was alright and the fear was gone. Because our parents love us, they know what to say and what to do to make everything right. God does too!

God loves us, so He has given us the comfort and guidance of the Holy Ghost which gives us power to be strong in the Lord; His love allows us to face those who are against us and would bring harm. Jacob had that kind of love for Rachel. He didn’t fear Laban and took all of his foolishness and married Leah for what started out as 7 years of labor, really 14 years to marry Rachel. Yes, God gives us good sense (a sound mind) so that we can have peace and not fear. We have power to do anything in Christ Jesus!
We fear not because:

• God is with us and we are not dismayed for God will strengthen and help us
• The Lord will fight for us and we are victorious
• God gives us a courageous spirit to speak in His name
• God has delivered us from fear with power, love and a sound mind

Let us pray: Father, thank you for your love for us and providing for us. Cleanse us of any fears we have that keep us away from you. Remove all doubts and fears and continue to be who we need in our lives. Amen.
